But since the distribution and surface area were not sufficient, the special formed top layers; wheels, stars, discs and rings, were introduced. The Rest-O-Top® inert ceramic top layer wheels

The Rest-O-Top® inert ceramic top layer wheels are the main type used top layer of MTE, developed as a hold down media on top of the catalyst bed. This shape gives a high void fraction and surface area which provides a significant lower pressure drop compared to the conventional types. It also provides a better distribution flow and traps large particulates which could foul the catalyst bed.

Ceramic & high alumina rings are used because of the provision of a lower pressure drop in comparison with inert ceramic balls. MTE also produces this type with an high alumina content of 99.3% for applications where the standard silica based rings are not suitable due to chemical resistance, temperature resistance or mechanical strength.
